Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my adventures in travel, thoughts, and growth!

Role Reversal

Role Reversal

If the past, present, and the future are illusions we created for ourselves, then I’ve tapped into the ability to converge upon all three in the space of time.  Or at least I did so one lovely Saturday morning.  As I was tending to my own chores, I could hear my daughter off in the distance with all the cling and clatter of pots and pans preparing to land on the stove top.  I heard my grandchildren enjoying the leisurely Saturday morning in the same way most of us could remember our Saturday mornings - with the joy of no school and Saturday morning cartoons.  I soaked in my grandchildren’s laughter as they played and smiled as I could hear my daughter call out to them in order to correct them.  All the sounds of the present moment awakened my own memories of when I held my daughter’s role.  The memory fixed me in time as I transcended from my present to the past and then back again from the present to dream of the future.

The present moment stopped for me as I began to recollect all my similar Saturday mornings.  The time my mornings felt so purposeful, meaningful, and so deliciously mesmerizing.  For that moment, the present could only stay fixated on the past. I had to enjoy the memory of motherhood while the memory was ignited so vividly.  That precious time I had with my children while they were younger.  Now they have their families, and I slowly begin to drift into the background to observe the cycle of life; which I enjoy.  I recognize my role and treasure the opportunity to pour wisdom into my grandchildren. Albeit, they receive the refined version of my wisdom.

I am so very thankful that my mind is able to hold on to that precious memory and bring it back into recollection.  I am thankful for the power that my memory had to stop the present and dive back into the past.
